Only a few mineral species were known to ancient civilizations. Tourmaline was one of these. Although this complex borosilicate is not among the classical precious stones, its attractive appearance and interesting properties have always endeared it to gemologists and mineralogists. Tourmaline exists in many forms in many countries with some forms being highly prized by collectors. We will eventually bring you most forms of this beautiful mineral on these pages.
