Apophyllite is one of the best known Indian minerals.  Many of the specimens illustrated are especially bright and glossy.  These are from Jalgaon in Northern Maharatra state.  This locality has produced the worlds best specimens of apophyllite and production only started in the late 1980's.

Green apophyllite was first unearthed during the 1970's.  Since then apophyllite in paler and deeper colours has been discovered.  The green coloration is due to traces of vanadium, the same chemical element that is responsible for the vivid blue coloration in Cavansite.
