Men have cheated, thieved and declared war over this loveable, but elusive, butter-yellow metal.

A larger selection of Gold specimens is available in the Australian gem pages

G017 Gold leaf in bottle

Pure 24 Carat gold is so soft that it can be beaten into extremely thin sheets known as leaf gold.
Here is a vial full of pure gold leaf for only $15 a bottle.

4.5cm tall $15

Gold was first discovered in California by James Marshall on the 24th of January, 1849.  This discovery of alluvial gold triggered one of histories greatest gold rushes.  Since then, modern miners have tried to trace gold upstream to where it originally formed.   Such deposits are referred to as "mother loads".

G397 Gold with minor Quartz

Note the quartz crystal on right hand side. This is a superb crystalline gold specimen and its beauty is poorly reproduced on the internet.
