Malachite is one of the most attractive and highly sought after of all minerals.  Of the 3500 or so known mineral species, malachite is within the top 20.  Australia has its share of localities that have produced fine specimens of malachite.

Burra Burra is one of Australia's oldest copper deposits.  This specimen is particularly fine because its surfaces are lustrous

Burra Burra, South Australia   $300

G133 Malachite

Mount Gunson, South Australia

Browns Deposit was briefly worked in the late 1970's and a trove of fine specimens was produced.   These are some of them.

This must be one of the most under rated comminations in the entire mineral kingdom.  Where else does bright yellow, lustrous pyromorphite encrust fine, satin-lustered malachite?

5.5cm x 4cm   $40

G154 Malachite

This locality is remote and production has always been restricted because of this.  However some, pseudomorphous malachite has been found.  This specimen started its life as Azurite but was gradually chemically replaced by malachite.

G153 Malachite  Pseudomorph after Azurite

Sir Dominic Mine, Arkaroola, South Australia

5cm x 4.5cm cut   $30

G210 Malachite

The Chillagoe deposit produced some highly esthetic malachite and azurite specimens.  This is one of them.
