This group of Cephalopods first appeared just over 350,000,000 years ago during the Devonian period and disappeared during the Cretaceous period. Ammonites have been regularly found at up to 1 meter in size with the largest species Parapuzosia from the Upper Cretaceous period measuring a cool 2.5 meters (8 feet).  In layman's terms "One Hell of a Snail"
