Miltonias grown by Paradisia

Miltonias are a very worth while plant to grow for any collector and an extremely good plant for a beginner as they are a very good house plant and are one of the very few true indoor orchids. Miltonias have developed a bad reputation with many growers as they have not had experience with the better forms of Miltonias and have therefore not learned to enjoy these lovely plants.

Miltonia hybrids are created like all new orchids hybrids from crossing to varieties together to collect seed. Unfortunately with Miltonias selecting a good seedling is like getting the jackpot on a poker machine, the chances of getting a good grower is very slim. Seedling Miltonias should be left to growers with ideal growing conditions. Purchases for beginners should be of proven and hardy varieties that have stood the test of time. The following types represent the hybrids that are sold world wide as commercial Miltonias for indoor conditions. The plants are rated from 1 to 5 for their hardiness and free flowering ability. It must be remembered that all the varieties below are very good performers and even those rated as a 1 are still very good plants but not as suited to the beginner. Those plants rated a 5 are top performers. Those rated a 1 are still good but may be a little temperamental.

Many other exceptional Miltonia hybrids have been produced but are not in commercial production so will not be available. Most of the above varieties are available from Orchid World at sizes ranging from 10cm plants to mature multigrowth flowering plants.

Due to the cost of phytosanitary certificates it is not economical to export small orders out of Australia. Importers may also be required to have an import and a CITES permit from their local authorities for orchids, this information must be obtained from your local authorities. Wholesale prices are available on request.
