Australian Gypsum

Ordering Information * * * * * * * * Return to Gems Index Page

Gypsum is one of the most common minerals on earth.   Chemically it consists of hydrated calcium sulfate.  When heated gypsum looses its waters of crystallization and forms a white material known as "Plaster of Paris".   Anyone who observes all of the plasterwork in their environment will hence appreciate the importance of this common species.

Gypsum is highly variable in habitat and many very attractive crystal forms have been recovered.  #
