In the early 1980's, two brothers, Jeno and Attila Kapitany, operated a mail order business supplying specialized plants around Australia. Trading as Paradisia Nurseries the business became successful very quickly and it was obvious from the range of queries that we received that there was a large demand for a one stop specialist retail nursery. Many of our customers would rather see what they were purchasing rather than buy mail order.
In 1983, the concept of a Collectors Corner was born and by late 1984 our first display nursery was opened at Garden World nursery complex with a very limited budget. Within 3 years, we had outgrown the 700 m2 facility and drew plans to create a huge 2,600 sq metre complex next door to our old building. The expansion gave us room to incorporate all our hobbies into the existing business with ample room to display our collections as well as room for retail sales.
With our large wholesale business providing a steady income we were able to create a real showcase with about 50% of the complex dedicated to display of our collection material. In 1984, our younger brother Tom came into the business and helped introduced Bonsai, Gems, Fossils, Minerals and Meteorites to the our already amazing range of products. In 1998 Tome established a new gem business in order to cope with our expanding demand overseas, this business now works in parallel with Collectors Corner and gives us access to a far greater range of product.
Since first opening, the complex has developed a excellent reputation both in Australia and overseas and is recognized as the most unique nursery in the world. International visitors to Melbourne often call in to Collectors Corner to view the displays and sometimes to get that something that may not be available in their own country.
These web pages are written and maintained by Jeno Kapitany as a one stop site for anyone to enjoy our wonderful range of products. From these pages you will one day be able to learn all we know about these wonderful subjects.

The Bonsai Department Recognized world wide as one of the finer collections of Bonsai outside of Japan and the largest collection in the Southern Hemisphere. The collection comprises of over 100 selected trees representing a large range of genera styled into most styles available. The display is open for viewing 363 days of the year. The sales area contains a large selection of plants and starters as well as all the accessories needed for bonsai beginners and experts. |
The Cactus Department Cacti have made Collectors Corner more recognizable than any other department as there are extensive displays of cacti in and around the complex with the main indoor display being a huge cacti and succulent garden covering 300 square meters of raised garden beds. Many of the specimens are over 3 meters tall and some plants are in excess of 100 years old. Wedding photos are regularly taken in the displays. The retail area has cacti of all shapes and sizes and caters for the novice as well as the well seasoned collector. |

The Orchid Department Collectors Corner is now well recognized as having the largest retail range of orchids in Australia and with our production nursery Orchid World we are capable of maintaining flowering displays of orchids year round. In the main orchid season the complex can hold over 1,000 orchids in flower. The retail range of orchids is very large and offers something for everyone. The Carnivorous Plants Collectors Corner provides and extensive collection of Carnivorous Plants for retail sales all year round. In season large displays are created featuring these wonders of nature. |

The Bromeliad Department Collectors Corner has an extensive range of bromeliads on display and sales. Our tropical display comprises of water falls and huge artificial trees covered in Bromeliads and other epiphytic plants. Sea Shells Collectors Corner
displays a large selection of sea shells from around the world whether it be a common
shell found on the beach to very rare collectors items found at 200ft below the surface.
We also display sea creatures and many other curios from the oceans of the world.

Horticultural Books Collectors Corner maintains an extensive range of horticultural book titles with over 700 titles available at any one time from our retail nursery. |
