Ceropegias

These pages are brought to you by Collectors Corner

Ceropegias are a novel and highly prized group of creepers from Africa, they are a member of the Asclepidaceae family, a family that included Hoyas and Stapelias. Ceropegias produce succulent leaves or stems and create flowers that are rather unique in the plant kingdom. The photos below give you a sample of the uniqueness and the symmetry of the flowers.

The most common and hardiest member of the family is C woodii, the Chain of Hearts. Some Ceropegias are very easy to grow while others are very difficult and need specified conditions to grow. Most members of the family are considered rare in cultivation and may only be obtained through your local society or through specialist succulent nurseries.
